Farmhouse sink cabinet questions

What size cabinet does a farmhouse sink need?

Add 3″ to the sink's overall width — 1-1/2″ of face frame on each side — to the nearest 1/4″. A 33″ sink needs a 36″ cabinet; a 35.24″ sink needs a 38-1/4″ cabinet.

How does the countertop change the cabinet?

With 3cm stone, quartz or butcher block the sink sits flush with the cabinet top, so the apron opening matches the sink's apron. With 2cm the sink sits 5/8″ to 3/4″ higher, so the opening is that much shorter.

Can an inset cabinet hold a heavy farmhouse sink?

Yes. The inset face frame doesn't carry the sink. Interior supports are installed inside the cabinet, so it holds a sink of any weight, including fireclay and cast iron.
